Getting Married in Salzburg

Planning a wedding in a foreign country can be both exciting and daunting. Salzburg, Austria, with its picturesque landscapes, historic architecture, and romantic charm, is an ideal destination for couples looking for a unique and memorable wedding. To make your wedding journey as seamless as possible, we’ve compiled a comprehensive checklist for foreign couples getting married in Salzburg.

1. Initial Research and Legal Requirements

– Check Passport Validity: Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your wedding date.

– Understand the Legal Requirements: Austria has specific regulations for foreigners getting married. This may include providing original birth certificates, proof of single status, and completed forms from your home country.

– Civil vs. Religious Ceremony:  Understand the differences and choose based on your preferences. A civil ceremony in Austria is legally binding, while a religious ceremony or blessing may not be.

– Translate Documents: Official documents may need to be translated into German by a certified translator.  Information on this will be listed on the next blog.

– Contact our office for a chat over the phone, or send us an email with any questions you may have.

2. Choose Your Wedding Venue

 – Historic Venues: Check out our page of venues with photographs of the specific locations.

 – Seasonal Considerations Choose a venue that fits your vision and the season in which you’re getting married, whether it’s a snow-kissed winter celebration or a summer garden event.  Our last blog has some more information on seasons in Salzburg. Seasonal Guide for weddings in Salzburg.
